The Most Expensive Habit in Small Business

It isn't overspending. It's waiting until you feel ready.

There's a version of every business idea that dies without ever being tested. Not because it was bad. Because the person holding it kept waiting for a better week.

I sat on an idea for close to a year. I believed in it. And every time I considered doing something with it, I found a reason that week wasn't the right one. Too busy. Not enough figured out. I'd start once things calmed down.

Things never calmed down. They don't. That isn't a personal failing, it's just what running a business feels like.

Eleven months of thinking. Two hours of testing. The testing won.

WHY PEOPLE ACTUALLY STALL

The common explanation is fear, or procrastination. In my experience it's almost never either. It's that testing an idea feels vague.

"Go validate your idea" is not a task. There's no obvious first move and no clear finish line, so it sits on the list in permanent limbo while the idea keeps aging.

TRY THIS WEEK

Take the idea rattling around in your head and run it through any AI chatbot you've got.

"Here's my business idea: [describe it in a messy paragraph, don't clean it up]. Rewrite it as three sentences a smart twelve year old would understand. No jargon."

ONE TOOL WORTH YOUR TIME

Reddit. Not for posting, for reading. Search your problem plus "frustrating" or "hate" and you'll find people describing your customer's pain in their own unfiltered words. Free evidence, and free copy.
